You Have Words Italian Update v1.0.4

An update to You Have Words Italian should be live in the App Store within the next 24 hours. This update represents a major change over previous releases in that it moves to a completely free, iAd supported version of the App. This means that existing users of the free version of the App will be upgraded to the full 1,400 word, 27 topic dictionary.

Local Notifications

For users running on iOS 4 you will now receive local notification reminders when you have words to learn. This feature was previously only available in the paid version of the App and used Apple’s Push Notification service. With iOS 4 these notifications are now created locally on the device so do not require a network connection to operate.

iAd Support

The full version of the App is now completely free of charge with the inclusion of Apple iAds. The iAd banner is displayed on the home screen only when an Ad is available. At present the iAd service is only available in the US so users in other countries will not see Ads. As Apple rolls out the iAd service globally users outside the US will also start to see Ads.

Users who previously used the In-App Purchase option to upgrade to the paid version of the App will not see the Ads.

Multi-tasking Support

As with the previous version full support for the fast-app switching capability of iOS 4 is included. Clicking the home button whilst the App is running moves it to the background allowing it to be quickly resumed later from the point where it was suspended.

Backward Compatibility

As with previous releases we have continued to maintain compatibility with older devices running at least iOS version 3.1. Note though that the local notification feature is only available on devices running iOS 4.
