If you have updated your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to iOS 7 over the last week you should check the App Store for an update to You Have Words Italian. This update is only available for iOS 7 which is now the minimum supported version.
New User Interface Design
The recent release by Apple of iOS 7 provided a good opportunity to refresh the user interface. The most dramatic change is to the main screen showing the learning topics. The old table list view has been replaced by what I hope is a simplified and more visually pleasing card view. The screenshot below shows what this looks like on the iPhone.
The change is even more noticeable on the iPad. I always felt the previous split display made poor use of the larger iPad screen. The new design should make it easier to quickly spot which topics need attention.
Double tapping on a topic card displays the learning statistics for the topic and provides the option to reset the learning history for the topic:
The other major user interface design change is with the display of the flashcards. The old card designs have been replaced by simpler designs. More importantly the scoring buttons have been made bigger and hopefully easier to tap.
The detailed word display has received a minor cleanup to improve readability and refresh some of the icons.
Improvements and Bug Fixes
There has been a number of improvements and bug fixes included in this release:
- The detailed word view now includes the phonetic spelling of the words.
- The Twitter search results now support the pull-to-refresh action.
- The ability to learn ahead, previously indicated by a grey badge, has been removed as it caused confusion.
- Improvements to accessibility and VoiceOver support
- Dictionary corrections
- Fixed a bug that was causing some users not to see dictionary corrections and updates.
Compatibility
This update requires a minimum version of iOS 7 for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
